A dog wanted by Animal Control in relation to an attack on another dog in Eden St on Monday afternoon has been located, the Waitaki District Council confirmed yesterday.
Regulatory services manager Lichelle Guyan said the alleged offending dog was taken into Animal Control custody on Wednesday evening with the assistance of Oamaru police.
The other dog received substantial injuries requiring surgery and its owner was taken to Dunedin Hospital with injuries sustained during the incident but not as a result of a dog bite.
The victim has returned home from hospital and their dog remains in a serious condition.
Mrs Guyan said she wanted to thank those who came forward with information during this time, which has been stressful for all parties.
Animal Control now have written statements from all involved and sufficient information to understand what has occurred.
“There will be no further comment until an outcome is reached.”
Council is concerned about the recent level of dog complaints and is considering options to reduce serious incidents, she said.
