Govt fire plan rings alarm bells

The Waitaki District Council has voiced its displeasure about several aspects of the Government’s Fire Services Review Discussion Paper, particularly on the proposed centralisation of fire services.

The review paper was prepared following a 2014 study of fire services, led by the Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the discussion paper, the review found several “significant problems” with fire services – expectation, co-ordination, leadership and investment.
