New Waitaki District councillor June Slee will be sworn in at a ceremony in the council chambers tomorrow morning.
Mrs Slee, a former Environment Canterbury councillor, was elected unopposed for the Ahuriri Ward.
No candidate stood in the October local body elections, after former councillor Craig Dawson stood down from the position.
Dr Slee is a former senior lecturer in education at Darwin University. She lives at Otekaieke in the Waitaki Valley and served a term as an Environment Canterbury councillor, representing the Waitaki constituency.
Meanwhile, postal voting continues to decide two seats on the Ahuriri Community Board and one position on the Oamaru Licensing Trust’s Ward 1.
Brent Cowles, Ross McLeod, Vicky Munro and Kathryn White are seeking the community board positions while Peter Bond and John Howie are candidates for the licensing trust.
Last week, electoral officer David Blair said around 77 per cent of the eligible voters were yet to return their voting papers.
Voting papers must be in the hands of the electoral officer no later than 12 noon next Tuesday. Mr Blair advised the papers should be in the post no later than this Thursday.
