It may have taken a fully working day and some deep discussion and debate, but the Waitaki District Council has settled on a rates rise for next year.

The district-wide increase for the 2016-17 financial year will be 1.7, after the council went through its final decision-making process on the Draft 2015-25 Long Term Plan, which outlines the council’s major projects for the next decade.

Councillors considered additional proposals put forward as part of the long term plan submissions process, and confirmed, amended and removed other proposals which had previously been approved, after consultation with the community.
