Road resealing resumes

Following a break over the Christmas/New Year break, resealing of Waitaki roads in restarted yesterday with work in Oamaru’s Chelmer St.

Waitaki District Council roading manager Michael Voss said a $1.2 million per year contract to reseal 40km of Waitaki’s road network was awarded to contractor Fulton Hogan in October.

Since then, until Christmas, 8km of sealing had been completed in Oamaru, Kakanui and Waitaki plains.

“Chelmer St is currently under way, with the adjoining Saleyards Rd and Waiareka Lane expected to be completed by the end of the week,” Mr Voss said.

Once this had been completed, Mr Voss said resealing would shift to the Waihemo area, where 10km of Macraes Rd would be resealed, including through the township.

“Goodwood Rd and Stronsa St in Palmerston are scheduled for completion after Waitangi Day,” Mr Voss said.

Work will resume in Oamaru during late February, resealing 3km, which will include Derwent and Warren streets.

“Completion of this year’s sites is currently scheduled for late February 2014,” Mr Voss said.
