Waitaki District Councillor Helen Stead announced she will stand for both the Mayor and councillor of the Oamaru Ward, yesterday afternoon.
She will join four other candidates who have also announced their intentions to run for mayoralty, including Gary Kircher, Jim Hopkins, Fliss Butcher and Greg Smith.
Stead has stood as a Waitaki District Councillor for three terms, since 2004, and says she has a strong background in local and national heritage and community issues.
“As Mayor I will advocate strongly in support of rural and provincial New Zealand, closely scrutinize council spending, promote strong governance and limit the role of management in council policy making,” she said.
