The Waitaki District Council is set to endorse a draft joint submission on the Local Government and Environmental Select Committee’s Earthquake-Prine Buildings Policy at a meeting of council’s customer services committee tomorrow.
During the past two years, the council, along with other councils in Otago, Southland, South Canterbury and the West Coast, has engaged with the Government on changes to earthquake-prone buildings and the Building Act.
The first joint submission came in 2013, in response to proposed policy changes by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), which was followed by a second submission to the Select Committee in April 2014.
