Raindrops aplenty forecast for the holidays

Plenty of water for the garden might be one way to view the weather prospects for Oamaru in the coming days through to New Year – but the town is not alone.

If the experts from the MetService are correct in their predictions, tomorrow will have fine breaks but also showers and southerlies. Perhaps a good excuse to have a second helping of pudding.

The Christmas Day temperature high is expected to be 19C.

On Thursday, the MetService is predicting showers and southerlies in Oamaru, drizzle Friday, cloudy weather Saturday and Sunday and rain on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday into the New Year.

While temperatures inland will be higher, the weather map might not be showing many yellow eggs either.

In the much-favoured Central Otago holiday spot of Wanaka, for example, they’re predicted to have an average Christmas Day, with a temperature high of 17C and showers.

They should have fine sunny days on Boxing Day and Friday but then, while the temperatures will be over 20C most days, the weather man says they can expect rain every day through to New Year.
