Youth licence testing working a treat

Oamaru Youthtown have introduced a driving programme for youths wanting to sit for their licences.

Young people preparing for the licence test can receive three free lessons with Gina Healey from Youthtown.

Miss Healey said the programme had been put in place to help youths.

“We just offer to them what AA has introduced except slightly cheaper, and if they need more than three lessons, then we will give them more lessons. We just want to make sure that they pass the test.”

The pupils get picked up and taken to their test by Youthtown and then they will be dropped off home.

There is no driving involved with the testing, as it is aimed at people sitting their learner’s licence, but they will go out in the Youthtown van with either Gina or Mike Mullins and go over some hazards and what they need to look out for.

Miss Healey said this would be incredibly beneficial.

“It’s to help them with some of the more tricky things like flush medians.”

Youthtown lessons cost $85.
