Planning is under way for the Waitaki Multicultural Council’s annual concert, and this year race relations commissioner Dame Susan Devoy is set to attend.
Event coordinator Sandra Tonkin said everything was on track and the programme for the concert was being finalised.
This year’s concert would offer “a variety of different performances” including Chinese line dancers from Dunedin, performances from schools, Pacifica, steampunk and more, Mrs Tonkin said.
Performances from Nepalese and Polish groups were possible as well, she said.
Having the race relations commissioner coming as well was exciting, Mrs Tonkin said.
“We are delighted that Dame Susan Devoy is able to come to Oamaru.
“It’s great to have her come down as a special guest.”
This year’s concert would offer lots of variety, “colourful” performances and “an opportunity to share each-other’s cultures”, Mrs Tonkin said.
Tickets will be available in February.
The concert will be held on Saturday, March 29 at the Oamaru Opera House.
