Sione Palaa pitted his wits against Highlanders players in a training session last Friday in Dunedin before his trip to the United States on a North Otago Rugby Union Scholarship tomorrow.
The 18-year-old said he enjoyed the tough session and was given a warm welcome by the squad in what proved to be a steep learning curve.
“It was real intense, I felt like it was over my standard but I was just getting used to it.”
“They all came and introduced themselves to me, I didn’t expect that, I thought I’d be a no one but they were great and made me feel welcome,”
“I definitely learned a lot, they train five days a week and that’s what you expect in professional rugby.”
The loosehead prop said he has put the nerves to one side ahead of his trip to Atlanta, Georgia’s Life University tomorrow.
“I’m not thinking about being nervous now, I just want to enjoy it.”
